Al Issawi raises issue of Iraq corruption

Friday, May 08, 2009 09:01 GMT
Deputy Prime Minister Rafea Al Issawi considered that corruption is the reason for the permanent lack of essential services which threatens stability. He considered that the biggest challenge is not only the budget which the government had to reduce due to oil revenues decrease but is also corruption.
In the conference of providing services and building up capacities in Iraq central provinces, Al Issawi affirmed that violence is a major problem stressing that the challenge resides in providing services hindered by administrative and financial corruption.

1 - No end to corruption  [08-05-2009 13:42] Posted by: motown67
Issawi can complain about corruption all he wants but unless the government changes its laws and procedures it's not going to end. Maliki has fired inspector generals from the ministries, tried to get rid of the top officials in the Integrity Commission which is the chief anti-corruption body, and an old Saddam era law allows each minister to stop any investigation. That leaves only the lowest officials usually to be prosecuted. musingsoniraq.blogspot.com
