Iraqi authorities have launched a tree planting campaign in several provinces to fight desertification and sandstorms which blow on daily basis especially in central and southern Iraq. Campaigns have covered regions including dams and lakes, the Water Resources Ministry affirmed. This campaign aims at adopting efficient methods to reduce the impact of natural factors and raise of temperature as well as finding an appropriate environment by preserving soil moisture and preventing from desertification, the Ministry added.
Moreover, the campaign included plantation of around 500 acres in Babel, Najaf, Kut, Amarah, Anbar and Al-Azim regions, the Ministry declared in a statement. These lands were cultivated with olives, citrus and pears trees as well as ornamental plants, eucalyptus and fruit trees, the statement added.
