Iraqi soldiers from the 14th division of the Iraqi army have participated in the first wide-scale maneuver in Basra. Maneuvers took place in Kitibaan, eastern Basra, less than 20 kilometers away from Iranian borders.
In the maneuver, the Iraqi army used different types of weapons, including medium and heavy machine guns which Iraq employed recently as part of an armament contract with a foreign country.
Iraq’s Army third division of the 52nd Navy Brigade carried out a maneuver to exercise on planned attack and train chiefs on battle as well as highlight intelligence role in military operations, an informed source reported.
Training was conducted on the ground using tanks, soldiers’ carriers, live ammunitions including mortars, the source added.
Iraq’s Defense Ministry affirmed that field trainings of combat brigades aim at putting these forces in the position of fighting internal threats after their role during the past years was restricted to ascertaining internal security and fighting Al Qaeda and outlaws.
