Jaafari in special interview with Alsumaria

Friday, September 18, 2009 09:41 GMT
In a special interview with Alsumaria, former Prime Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al Jaafari discussed four main issues namely Iraqi-Syrian crisis and relation with neighbors, security in Iraq, electoral alliances and national reconciliation as well as upcoming elections due early next year.

In regards to the crisis with Syria, Al Jaafari explained that referring to the International Tribunal mounts escalation and internationalizing the crisis should be the last resort, he noted.
Iraqi Former Prime Minister stressed that the best way to face insecurity in the country is to mark a national accomplishment through the upcoming parliamentary elections.
In an interview with anchor Manal Al Rubaie, Al Jaafari evoked present alliances in the country stressing the necessity to open up to all components of the Iraqi society away from sectarian and ethnic apportionment. He called to take lessons from past mistakes affirming that the new Iraqi national coalition is a start to a new phase and an end for a past stage.

In response to reports that US Vice President Joseph Biden tackled during his visit to Iraq the political process and national reconciliation, Al Jaafari argued that this issue concerns Iraqis themselves.
Iraqi former Prime Minister stressed the necessity to deal with Iraqis’ daily sufferings and not focus only on security issues.
