Al Sadr sets candidates election mechanism

Saturday, October 03, 2009 09:41 GMT
Al Sadr Front spokesman Sheikh Salah Al Ubiadi said that the Front has set a mechanism to choose its candidates for upcoming elections in January.
The candidate or any relatives should not be members of Baath Party and should believe in supreme divine values, Al Ubaidi noted. Candidates should not be convicted with any crime or dishonorable charge, he added.
Al Sadr’s office supervision and administration committee in provinces has set a technical mechanism on how to choose candidates upon the directives of Sayyed Moqtada Al Sadr, Al Ubaidi explained.
Measures stipulate holding preliminary elections in each province to allow for a wider participation of candidates and voters, he said.
