Peshmerga Forces spokesman Brigadier Jibar Yawer announced that forming a joint Kurdish-Iraqi-US force to protect disputed regions is still awaiting the final approval of the federal government and Kurdistan region. A committee of US, Kurdish and Iraqi senior officers held a series of meetings in Baghdad and Arbil and reached a number of proposals about the joint force formation, command and deployment.
The proposals were passed to armed forces general commander Nuri Al Maliki and Kurdistan leader Massoud Barazani for approval.
Some political parties object the joint force formation, Yawer clarified.
It’s a defensive and security issue that is for the government to decide about, he argued.
