Today is expected to be decisive over Iraq’s elections law after the Independent High Electoral Commission has warned to delay elections if the law is not ratified today. Head of political parties and Parliament intensified talks and discussions to unify their stands hoping to reach a satisfactory solution over Kirkuk issue.
Informed sources told Al Sabah Newspaper that there are new proposals which they kept unrevealed. MP Abbas Al Bayati unveiled a new proposal over Kirkuk that would be approved by most parliamentary parties and would prepare for voting on the law.
While hopes are down on the possibility of making a breakthrough, MP Motlaq Al Jibouri announced that Arabs and Turkmen in Kirkuk are calling upon the government to use their constitutional authorities and adjourn Kirkuk elections until a consensus is reached.
Kurdistan Alliance MP Sirowan Al Zahawi warned against delaying parliamentary elections or adopting the 2005 elections law.
