Kurdistan Leader Massoud Barazani threatened to boycott elections unless the allocation of seats in parliament to Kirkuk, Nineveh and Diyala provinces is revised. Head of Kurdistan presidential office Fouad Hussein quoted leader Massoud Barazani as saying that the seat allocation system, which is based on food ration cards issued by the Trade Ministry, is "illogical, contradicts the reality on the ground and is a distortion of the facts."
The Independent High Electoral Commission had allocated 38 seats to the three provinces according to Trade Ministry registers.
Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Barham Saleh told Alsumaria News that the new election law is in “danger” calling to deal with the oversight in the Trade Ministry’s voter registers which he believes is “unfair for Kurds”.
Saleh reiterated that Kurds would boycott elections “as their last option” if their demands are not addressed
