Iraqi Parliament is due to hold an urgent session in the afternoon upon the request of President Jalal Talabani to clarify a certain point on the election law over the number of seats in provinces, minorities quota and votes of immigrants. The session will discuss the agreement reached between political parties and Vice President Tarek Al Hashemi which stipulates not to decrease number of seats in provinces in order to avert veto, parliamentary sources said.
Accordance Front spokesman and deputy head of Parliament’s legal committee Salim Abdullah Al Jibouri considered that rows over seats concern Sulaymaniya and Dahuk with calls not to reduce seats therein.
Number of seats in Baghdad according to the last amendment increased by 4 seats and by one seat in each of Basra, Arbil and Diyala. The number of seats increased by 2 in Sulaymaniya while it was reduced by 2 in Nineveh and by 1 in each of Dhi Qar, Salahuddin, Najaf, Waset, Qadissiya, Missan and Karbala.
Number of seats in remaining provinces stayed the same.
