Two bombings at the eastern entrance of Karbala killed at least 41 pilgrims and wounded 144 others. While security sources reported that the explosions resulted of car bombs, Karbala governor Amalddin Al Her affirmed that the bombing was caused by a mortar that hit the eastern entrance of the city during the commemoration of Imam Hussein (AS) Arbaeen.
Central Furat Operations Command Brigadier Othman Al Ghanemi confirmed to Alsumaria that two mortars hit the city.
A disabled man wearing an explosives belt near Al Zubair District mosque was arrested, Basra Police reported. The suicide bomber was supposed to blow himself up among hundreds of pilgrims, it added.
Security forces received intelligence information reporting that a terrorist cell has used a disabled man to carry out a suicide bombing among pilgrims, Basra Police Commander Brigadier Adel Daham told Alsumaria News.
