General Assembly approves Gaza report |

UN General Assembly approved on Thursday with a landslide majority a resolution which gives Israelis and Palestinians a period of 3 months in order to start credible investigations regarding the war crimes that were committed during the Israeli offensive against Gaza Strip last winter. The General Assembly adopted the decision submitted by Arab Countries and non-alignment and that after two days of discussions. The resolution was approved with a majority of 114 votes and the opposition of 18 members while 44 abstained. USA voted against the resolution while Russia abstained. Meanwhile, European Union countries had different stands as 5 countries voted for the resolution, 7 countries voted against and 15 including France and Britain abstained. The decision of the General Assembly stipulates to review to which extent the resolution has been applied and leaves way to the possibility of resorting to other competent UN committees including Security Council. The resolution also stipulates to defer the case to the International Criminal Court (ICC) if Israel and Hamas did not hold from now till 6 months credible investigations regarding means that were adopted in the Gaza Strip Offensive.
