Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki affirmed that the government is keen on maintaining transparent and honest elections before the Iraqi people and among all competitive parties. In a meeting with UN Chief Representative to Iraq Ad Melkert, Al Maliki stressed the necessity to recount votes manually using new mechanisms in order to rule out all suspicions. Melkert reiterated support to the democratic process in Iraq praising Iraqi Government’s wisdom and affirming Prime Minister’s capacity to manage the electoral process.
