Peshmerga Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government Jaafar Mustapha warned on Wednesday against Kurds boycott to the Iraqi Army for it has become a “central army”, he argued.
Kurds have no longer any power in the Iraqi Army. The incidents that are occurring in the regions where Iraqi army is deployed especially in Diyala have never occurred at the time of Baath, Peshmerga Minister said.
In an exceptional session of Kurdistan Parliament that tackled the issue of Kurdish citizens in disputed regions, Mutapha said: “We have no authority anymore on the Iraqi Army which is becoming a central army. This is an issue that should be dealt with”.
“We as a region have taken a determined decision in this regard and will dispatch a delegation to Baghdad in a week in order to resolve this issue”, Peshmerga Minister said.
“We might boycott the Iraqi Army in aim to find a solution to this issue”, he added.
In regards to the security situation in Saadiya, Jalula, Qortoba and other disputed regions, Mustapha noted that “we have carried out previously joint operations with the Iraqi Army.
However, the Iraqi Army now is carrying out unilateral operations noting that what’s happening in these regions has never occurred at the time of Baath.
Baath Party used to deport and expel Kurds from their regions while now Kurds are being expelled and killed”.
“Joint talks between Kurdistan and Baghdad with the participation of US Forces representative have resulted of a decision stipulating that the 3d brigade of Peshmerga Forces and the fourth brigade of the Iraqi Army would take over the security of disputed regions in Kirkuk and Diyala. Talks will carry out until reaching a final solution to pending issues”, Mustapha said.
Kurdistan Regional Government noted that it has informed on Tuesday the representatives of foreign and Arab consulates about the suffering of Kurds in disputed regions mainly within Diyala borders. KRG submitted as well figures on the number of Kurdish immigrants and killed in disputed regions.
