Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) accused Iraqi government, on Friday, of halting supplies of carbon and firewood as well as necessary oil products for winter to Ashraf camp residents. This is an inhuman and major violation to human rights and international agreements signed by Iraq, MKO argued appealing the International Security Council, United Nations (UN), the US Administration and European Union (EU) to take urgent action in this regard.
“Since more than 9 months, forces commanded by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki have suspended supplies of fuel to Ashraf Camp,” the Secretary of National Council for Iranian Resistance based in Paris revealed in a statement which Alsumarianews received a copy of. “These same forces are hindering as well supplies of Gas and oil to the camp,” the secretary said in a statement.
“Ashraf suppression committee commanded by Iraq ministerial council prohibited, on Wednesday, the export to the camp of carbon and firewood cargos which residents had purchased in preparation for winter,” the statement added. “Last month, suppression forces stopped containers of oil and gas bought by Ashraf Camp residents from entering the camp and returned them instead to production facilities,” the statement indicated.
“Ashraf Camp residents resorted to carbon and firewood to fulfill their basic need of heating since oil material supplies were prevented to enter their camp. They are finding difficulties in cooking, heating water and running electrical generators,” the statement revealed. This is an inhuman and major violation to human rights and international agreements signed by Iraq,” it pointed up.
“An urgent action must be taken to stop this embargo imposed on Ashraf Camp since three years,” the statement urged International Security Council, Secretary General of UN, UN’s High commission for Human Rights, and other specialized bodies of the UN in addition to the US Administration, European Union and its higher representative as well as EU’s special representative on Ashraf Camp Ambassador De Ruyt.
