Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu affirmed that Jerusalem will stay Israel’s capital and will \"never be divided\". Netanyahu said that only Israeli sovereignty over a united Jerusalem would ensure free religious practice and access to holy sites by the three major faiths. Saeb Erekat, Top Palestinian negotiator said that the stance of Binyamin Netanyahu regarding Jerusalem is a setback for the two states solution, strongly backed by the US administration. Erekat added that Netanyahu’s address means that the conflict will carry on for ever after and that Palestinians are dealing with people who refuse to negotiate.
