Internet in Iraq is a never ending case. After providing poor web service and bad connection, the government restricted citizens’ freedom to use the net by imposing censorship which spurred people’s complaints. The government blocked websites deemed pornographic or inciting violence thus triggered anger of freedom of expression advocators who consider this move as the first step towards political repression. However, Communications Ministry affirmed that it not exercising any censorship but it is regulating websites to benefit users. Citizens were not satisfied by these measures and expressed fears of further restraints. The Ministry declared earlier that it will only license 5 Iraqi companies out of 10 to provide internet service in the country.
