An official from Grand Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani’s office denied reports that Al Sistani may urge voters to boycott January\'s general elections. Grand Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani supports the system of open list and several Districts in upcoming elections, the official said in a televised statement. \"Ayatollah Ali Al Sistani supports the open list, and we think the open list is one of the ways to push large numbers of Iraqis to vote in the elections. Sistani expressed his point of view to the United Nations Secretary General\'s special representative to Iraq Ad Melkert, and if parliament were to continue on the closed list, he might have no big role in pushing Iraqi voters to participate in the elections,\" the official added.
