US Ambassador to Iraq Christopher Hill and Multinational Forces Commander in Iraq General Raymond Odierno congratulated in a statement Iraqi MPs for passing the election law and agreeing over crucial issues for Iraqis. By passing the law, the Iraqi people would have proved through its representatives that they are keen on a democratic government, both officials said. Hill has exercised great pressure on political parties to pass the election law in Sunday’s session, a parliamentary source told Alsumaria News. He pressured them in earlier meetings over reaching a compromise regarding Kirkuk, the source added. The US Ambassador had denied earlier in previous statements to Alsumaria News that his moves in Parliament are meant to interfere over the elections law. His moves were aimed at nearing points of views among the political parties over the election law, he said.
