Arab parties in Kirkuk cautioned that passing election law in its present version would affect minorities’ rights in the country. Parties affirmed that they would boycott elections if the law is passed without amendments that guarantee minorities’ right and consider Kirkuk special status. Provincial council member from the Republican Gathering Sheikh Abdullah Sami Al Assi called on Iraqi Vice President Tarek Al Hashemi to veto the law stressing that Arabs and Turkmen reject the present law. All options are open to object to the law by taking to the streets or by boycotting the political process, he said.
