Clashes and escalation in Al Aqsa

Once again Al Aqsa Mosque and its courtyard were once again violated by Israelis. In fact, after Friday payer the courtyards of Al Aqsa mosque and the surrounding streets became a scene for riots between Israeli police and Palestinians after police in riot gear stormed the hilltop enclosure when the Muslim protestors threw stones at Jewish worshippers at the Western Wall after the main weekly prayers. Running skirmishes between the sides continued in the lanes and alleys of the Old City outside the compound. Five policemen were transported to the hospital because of the clashes that lasted for hours, while 10 others were slightly wounded and were given medication on site. To that, Police spokesman said that 12 Palestinians were wounded in the clashes in Ras el-Amud in the east of old Jerusalem. Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina slammed \"the escalation of Israeli violence in Jerusalem and elsewhere in the West Bank aimed at sabotaging American efforts to relaunch\" Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, adding that it also aims at starting religious wars in the region. The Palestinian Presidency said that occupation forces are violating all the red lines in a bid to flee negotiations resumption especially after Arab follow-up committee approved resuming indirect Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations. The statement said that president Mahmoud Abbas is personally following up the progresses in Al Aqsa Mosque and is working on putting an end to these provocations. On the other hand the US presidency called to stop this Israeli adventure that might start up a religious war in the region.
