US elections taking the upper hand worldwide is the focus of politicians and citizens in Iraq. Head of Accordance Front Adnan Al Dulaimi announced that Iraqis wish for the next President to help Iraq and contribute to its economic reconstruction as well as efforts deployed to achieve political unity and ascertain security the main concern of Iraqis.
MP Mahmoud Othman affirmed that he supports Obama since the latter endorses most Kurdish minority aspirations seeking more independence.
Similarly, MP Ahmad Al Massoudi noted that he tends to support Obama though he doubts the latter would withdraw US Forces from Iraq if elected President stressing that what important is for the new President to respect Americans’ will to return their troops home and mainly respect Iraqis’ will. Kirkuk local council member Mohammed Khalil said he prefers for Obama to win because he is a Democrat and he opposed war on Iraq.
However, Iraqi citizens are divisive over which candidate is able to help them most improve their situation five years after the topple of the former regime.
Tuesday elections outcome might not decide the future of 150,000 US soldiers in Iraq. Yet, if Iraqi negotiations achieve the security agreement, US Forces would remain in Iraq until 2011. However, if the agreement fails, the next President might decide about this issue.
