The black US knight holds the sway of the White House. Unofficial results point out that Democrat Candidate Barack Obama won the US elections in an Electoral College landslide over his competitor John McCain after Florida results played a pivotal role.
These US elections are undeniably historic and that for many reasons. First of all, after these elections the United States would turn the page of Bush’s controversial, notorious term with all the wars that changed regimes and governors and with the great economic and financial crisis that marked the end of this term.
Today marks the disruption of a stage that started after 2001 assaults. At that stage, some tried to change the world from Afghanistan to Iraq drawing upheaving strategies under the slogan of fighting terrorism. Yet, lots of these strategies were doomed to fail. Today as well, is the end of the era of isolating Syria, Iran and the Russian titan which bids to head off from its seclusion.
The new US President will be charged with a heavy bequest and it would be hard for him to deal with the heap of daunting challenges on the short term. However, Obama’s popularity and the huge support the elections showed would help the later to change the previously adopted policies especially since he represents the spirit of change and youth.
Yet, lots of questions will wait for clear answers in the upcoming weeks and months: What would be the new US Strategy in Iraq? Would the USA withdraw troops form Iraq in favor of boosting the presence of US troops in Afghanistan? What would be the fate of the security pact? What about the Iranian file, the relations with Russia and Mideast policy? And most of all how would the new president solve the financial crisis that rocked the whole world?
However, what is sure and certain is that Obama is the First US black President and his victory affirms that the USA overcame racial barriers as old as America itself.
