Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Al Mashhadani made a surprise visit to Beirut in aim to brief Lebanese political and spiritual leaders about the latest in Iraq mainly regarding minorities’ representation in local elections and the course of negotiations on the security agreement. Al Mashhadani first met wit his Lebanese counterpart speaker Nabih Berri with whom he discussed the Arab Parliamentarian Union headquarters, the security agreement and the participation of religious and ethnic minorities in the political process. Iraqi Speaker met as well with parliamentarian majority leader MP Saad Al Hariri deliberating over means to enhance bilateral relations in different common fields. In a remarkable stop, Al Mashhadani visited for the first time Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Botros Sfeir in order to update him about the situation in Iraq. Iraqi Speaker checked the Iraqi Embassy in Beirut where he was briefed by Iraqi Charge D’affaires on some administrative issues in the Embassy.
