A major earthquake of 7.2 magnitude hit Christchurch the second biggest city in New Zeeland causing major damages and leading to the collapse of some buildings and a power cut. The city Mayor Bob Parker announced a curfew. The first statement issued by civil defense said that two men were suffering from critical wounds. Christchurch airport the only mean to go to the south of the island was closed and trains were stopped in order to check the safety of the railroads.
