In a remarkable stand, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki said he would call for an immediate withdrawal of US Forces from Iraq if Iraqi Parliament fails to approve the pact with the United States. Al Maliki warned that delaying the approval of the agreement might put Iraq ahead of some problems that might not be in the country’s national interest. Iraqi PM held a press conference on Sunday night following a meeting with Unified Iraqi Coalition Party and affirmed that the Coalition is unified in supporting the security agreement and in deploying efforts to persuade others of accepting the agreement as an opportunity to achieve national interest. “Extending the presence of the international forces on Iraqi soil will not be our alternative,” Al Maliki told journalists. “The alternative will be their immediate withdrawal from Iraq.” Al Maliki affirmed that the Coalition is acting towards persuading other political parties and blocs of the necessity to engage in the security agreement and approve it before it’s too late.
