Days before Iraq provincial elections, women candidates hope that they can increase their power in a male-dominated society.
In this context, some liberals have accused dominant religious parties of giving quota seats to carefully selected women who would not call for better women\'s rights. However, many Iraqi men, like Abu Omar, welcome the presence of women in the political establishment.
Given quotas system, more than a quarter of the 14,431 candidates registered in Iraq\'s upcoming provincial council elections are women. Some women proudly show their campaign posters on streets and carry out active campaigns.
Election candidate Amenah Al Assadi hopes consecutive elections would grant Iraqi women further rights while analyst William Warda says women have proved themselves more sincere that the men.
