Iraqi President Jalal Talabani expected Kurds to lay down weapons. Radical newspaper quoted President Talabani as saying that Kurdish political groups in Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Europe will jointly call on Kurdistan Workers Party to end armed conflict in a meeting to be held in Arbil late April or early May. Talabani told Al Sabah Turkish Newspaper that the move expected from Kurdistan Workers Party does not only mean cease fire but includes as well a decision to end armed combat. He called on Ankara to study the possibility of pardoning rebels in a step that promotes measures taken recently to increase the cultural freedom of Kurds and promote the possibilities of reaching permanent peace.
