National Security Advisor Mowaffaq Al Rubaie affirmed to Al Sharq Al Awsat Newspaper the ministerial council decision to cancel the National Security Council. Al Rubaie abstained from commenting on the consequences of this decision as to his position and to the security situation in Iraq. He stressed the necessity to wait for Parliament’s decision on the issue expected to be discussed within the coming weeks. For his part, Al Dabbagh explained to Al Sharq Al Awsat Newspaper reasons behind this decision saying that it does not target Al Rubaie but is part of restructuring Iraqi National Security Council and coordinating with security forces. Al Dabbagh added that Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki is capable of taking a wise decision to resolve the security issue by joining concerned ministries in the council. He stressed that Parliament is the legislative authority to approve or amend these decisions.
